  • Computational Thinking Scope And Sequence

    by Tara Avenia

I've analyzed the curriculum for students in Grades Kindergarten to 7, compared that to the public school curriculum in the United Kingdom, and have created a Computational Thinking Scope and Sequence that integrates all the core subjects in the province of British Columbia. This document is meant to support teachers in their efforts to teach every student how to code.

My Motivation

Before becoming an educator, I worked in television and film production, where I developed a reputation as a “professional problem solver.” This mindset led me to pursue a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in educational technology, which allows me to stay at the forefront of rapid technological changes and continue to tackle new challenges.

Throughout my career, I have taught students of all ages how to produce high-quality digital media, from 4-year-olds to 70-year-olds. This experience has reinforced my belief in the importance of staying curious and open-minded to new ways of learning and problem-solving.

For the past decade, I have worked as a curriculum coordinator, and my experience in educational technology has enabled me to connect with staff and students and design innovative lessons that engage today’s youth.

I invite you to explore my portfolio, which showcases my work using various learning technologies. My projects cover a wide range of topics, including the economics of educational technology, cyber safety, and the impact of one-to-one technology on student engagement and assessment.
